Katie Holmes Calls Hubby Tom Cruise A ‘Manly Romantic’

Written on July 9, 2011 by Alex Hirst

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have been together for over six years now—which is a pretty long time for Hollywood standards, especially considering everything that was working against them: Tom being a devout member of one of the weirdest and perhaps craziest religions there is (Katie is now also a Scientologist), Katie being much younger than he is, their getting together on the heels of her break-up from Chris Klein, and the fact that she was pregnant before they were wed. But this couple is still very much together, and despite constant tabloid rumors that their relationship has become rocky, it seems Tom and Katie are still quite in love with each other.

Katie Holmes is featured on the cover of the August issue of InStyle, and she gave the magazine some intimate details on her life with Tom in an interview. According to People, for Tom Cruise, theres no such thing as too much when it comes to taking his wife out on a date. Katie told InStyle: “Two years ago he took me up on his P-51 Mustang, a fighter plane from World War II. He painted the words, Kiss Me, Kate on the side. It feels like youre on a bike in the sky. I thought, Im either going to spend this whole flight totally freaked out or realize this is pretty thrilling.”

Of course, Tom Cruise is one of the richest actors in Hollywood, so its really not all that surprising he has his own WWII fighter jet. But is taking your wife on a possibly dangerous airplane ride what Katie considers “manly romantic”? It must be, as Katie never takes the time to elaborate on what exactly she takes that description to mean. In the interview, Holmes goes on to explain that her familys motto is also pretty vague: “In our family we have a policy: we make it work,” she says. “We Skype, and we try not to go for a week without seeing each other.” (Or maybe its that Skyping that Katie thinks is romantic and manly?)
