Marines Wedding…

Written on July 5, 2011 by Cody Whitefoord

Hi! My name is Dayra, I live in Miami FL and me and my fiancee Joe became engaged on December 29, 2010 so we plan on tying the knot December 29, 2012 We are high school sweethearts also. I have to plan the wedding almost by myself since Joe is being sent to USMC boot camp next June and will be away in South Carolina and who knows where else until about November. Now since we also have to pay ourselves (the tradition of the brides family paying definitely does NOT apply to us since I do not speak to my dad and my mom isnt exactly thrilled Im getting married at 20) I am looking for ways to make the cost a minimum on things that arent necessary such as decór and music.

Venue I love outdoor weddings and December is a great month to be outside in Miam; youre not sweating your make-up off, most days you dont have to worry about rain, and my curly hair will stay frizz-free without the summer and spring humidity. I want to have an outdoor wedding but most places that have outdoor spaces are hotels near the beach and if youve ever been to Miami Beach during the winter you would know why its a bad ideaTOO WINDY! So I was just looking on wedding blogs one day and saw a suggestion to get married in a county park. Perfect! So I looked up parks in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area and saw West Lake Park in Hollywood that has a beautiful courtyard and a reception hall if needed. To save time and money, I found a rental company in Doral that provides a tent with tables and chairs included for a really cheap price. I am thinking about having the ceremony and reception in the same area since renting 60 chairs for outside and 60 more chairs plus tables for inside is completely pointless. Id like to enjoy my fresh air.

Attire Now of course I wouldnt like to give up my dream wedding dress but Davids Bridal has really nice gowns for a reasonable price. The fact that I am 51 and a size 0 (if there was such thing as a -1 I would fit in it) makes it kind of difficult to find my dream dress though. I either dont weight enough or am not tall enough for the dresses that I really like. Joe will be wearing his military uniform so his tuxedo isnt a big deal and we are only having a maid of honor and a best man with no ring bearer or flower girl.

Decór Since Joe will be getting married in his uniform (supposedly its the right thing for servicemen to be married in their uniform) our wedding theme colors are red, navy blue, and gold. I (again) googled pictures for inspiration and saw a simple yet elegant example of the tables. All of the tablecloths, napkins, and silverware will be rented instead of bought (its cheaper and restaurants re-use their silverware and glassware) as well as the tent, tables, and chairs. I found this excellent party rental website from Miami (diamonette.com) where you can rent everything from tables and dance floors to salt shakers and silverware (ours will actually be stainless steel, nobody will know the difference)

Music Ill just have my brother DJ off of my iPod
