I’m all for guys giving their girlfriends fancy engagement rings when they propose. I’m equally for ladies marking this major moment in their relationships by offering their guys awesome presents. So what did I get Paul?

An LCD flat-screen TV! (It was 2006, so these were still a big deal.) He may have brought up wanting one as often as I talked about wanting to get engaged, so I knew it was the perfect present. Since I don’t know the first thing about electronics, I had to spoil the surprise and ask for his help in choosing a model and a size. He didn’t seem to mind.

Remember how, last year, Jennifer Hudson staged an “encore proposal” for her fiance, presenting him with a luxe 5-carat diamond Neil Lane band that she had helped design? Well now, according to One Wed and The New York Times, the “mengagement” ring trend is catching on among non-celebs too.

Lesbian Couple Launches Same-Sex Wedding Magazine

When Kristen Ott and Maria Paladino decided to take the leap and get married, the two “brooms” — a gender-neutral wedding-y term the two liked — they were beyond excited to plan their perfect wedding day.

But when they started flipping through the multitude of bridal glossies, they didn’t see a single couple that resembled them staring back.

“There are tons of wedding magazines when you go into a wedding section at a bookstore,” Ott told CNN.com. “But we weren’t in any of them. Not one single gay couple. It was disheartening.”

We’ve debated the pros and cons of vintage wedding dresses but what about a vintage bridesmaid dress?

For real bride Leah’s Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins-inspired nuptials in Georgia, she chose a candy-color mish-mosh of printed, vintage frocks for her ‘maids. Each attendant also wore a pair of different, crazy-fun shoes, from yellow flats to cowboy boots. The result: a playful, creative, off-the-cuff look.
