Real Wedding – I Heart You

Written on June 21, 2011 by Hunter Honey

Have you ever wanted to hug a wedding?  Emily and Scott were married in April at the W.O. Smith Music School in Nashville in a heartfelt wedding  we would love to squeeze.  Emily looked classic and effortless in her gorgeous Mori Lee gown, birdcage veil, and simply striking accessories and Scott was dapper in a charcoal tux and billy ball-accented boutonniere.  Their lovely ceremony and reception, accented with lots of darling heart details, was captured by brilliant photographer Jamie Clayton.  Their grand finale of sparklers and fireworks was just the cherry on top of a truly dazzling day.

Lovely: Tell us about THE dress and what inspired your look.

Emily: I had no idea what kind of look I wanted, so I was open to trying on anything and everything. My maid of honor and I spent a couple Saturdays visiting all the bridal boutiques around Nashville and I hadn’t found anything particularly amazing until we arrived at The White Room in Murfreesboro, TN. When I tried the dress on we all knew it was “the one” instantly. I actually bought a more traditional long veil to go with it, but I was never 100% happy with it. When searching for accessories on Etsy I stumbled upon Tessa Kim’s shop and fell in love with her veils. I felt like the bird cage veil I chose fit my personal style and seemed so elegant but still had a bit of edge to it.

Lovely: What were the most important details to pulling off your dream wedding?

Emily: I was not a super picky bride. The most important thing to me was that we were getting married. The second most important thing was that I wanted the wedding to be fun for everyone involved. Almost all of our guests were from out of town and I wanted everyone to feel relaxed and to have a good time after having traveled so far to be with us. We had a photo booth, which our guests absolutely loved, and we also had a candy buffet. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sugar addict, so instead of one wedding cake we had 5 smaller cakes, cupcakes, and lemon bars. We had mini hamburger sliders, chicken tenders and a macaroni bar for dinner and served beer and wine. We didn’t have a band or a DJ, but we created an iTunes playlist and were surprised at how many people utilized the dance floor! We really tried to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere rather than an extremely formal event. I was so nervous about the way it would turn out, but I couldn’t have been happier!

Lovely: What was the most memorable moment?

Emily: I have two!  For sentimental reasons, the most memorable moment was walking down the aisle to meet my future husband. We had decided not to see each other before the ceremony, so seeing him for the first time that day was really special. I just remember looking him in the eyes when I reached the end of the aisle and feeling such happiness and love and being completely oblivious to everything else around me. The most exciting moment of the day for me was when I surprised him with the guitar I bought him as a wedding gift. We exchanged gifts after the ceremony and I had wrapped up a small box with guitar “stuff” in it (tuner, strings, etc). When he opened it I could tell he was confused, but tried to act appreciative. At that moment one of my bridesmaids brought the guitar out with a big red bow wrapped around it. He was in complete shock and it made me so incredibly happy to have given him something he had wanted for so long. I will never forget the look on his face when he realized the guitar was actually his! It was an incredible moment and I am so thankful to all the people who helped me make it happen!

Lovely: If you could give future brides any advice, what would it be?

Emily: Wedding planning can be incredibly stressful, so try to make the best of it and have fun. Make a time line of to-do’s so that you don’t wear yourself out trying to accomplish so much towards the end. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Remember that the ultimate goal is to be married and everything else is just extra.
