Real Wedding – Forever Kind of Love

Written on April 1, 2011 by Hunter Honey

Noelle and Patrick have the type of love story that you catch yourself smiling about whenever you think of it: the drop-dead gorgeous couple  have been romancing since they flirted outside their shared locker in high school!  Their completely personalized day was made possible by an amazing team of vendors who also happened to be the couple’s best friends (even the stunning images by Lisa Barnshaw of Ora Photography!), and each little moment was treasured by the glowing pair.

Lovely: Tell us about THE dress and what inspired your look.

Noelle: I had a completely different dream dress in mind that was “slip-like” and beaded.  When I tried it on, it just wasn’t me and I had to start over.  All I knew was I wanted something comfortable, something I didn’t need help getting into: a simple gown, but with some texture.  I described what I was looking for to the girl in the shop and she pulled out the Watters Torreon and my little heart was captured.  My favorite thing about the dress is the way Patrick looked at me when he saw me in it.

Lovely: What were the most important details to pulling off your dream wedding?  Noelle: Personal touches.  We are lucky to know so many creative friends who wanted to help.  My best friend, Heather, designed our invitations, programs and table numbers.   My husband, mom, sister and I got together to wrap the candied apple favors and make the welcome bags for the hotel guests.  My friend Jake DJ’d. My friend Lisa was our photographer.  She helped us make a photo booth out of some curtains, bunting and old picture frames from my grandfather.  My favorite detail is that Lisa and I conspired to recreate a photo from my grandparents’ wedding in 1949. My grandmother passed away a few years ago and this was the perfect way to include her in our wedding memories.

Lovely: What was the most memorable moment?

Noelle: The toasts.  My mom prepared a poem she had written a year before the wedding and recited it beautifully.  Patrick’s brother, Danny, wrote a really touching speech that brought me to tears.  I’ll never forget the end of my sister Joy’s toast, “May your lives always be filled with Joy.”  Her whole speech was adorable and funny, but that really killed us.

Lovely: If you could give future brides any advice, what would it be?

Noelle: No matter how much you plan, things will go wrong on your wedding day.  My shoes ended up being too big somehow, our cocktail hour wound up being two hours (which was actually great) and our cake almost fell over when we cut it, which is why we are hysterical in our photo, but I love that about it.  Expect tiny disasters.  As long as you love each other as much, if not more than, the day you said yes, nothing else matters.
